Over
The Hill Gang rips it up at Glen Helen
Dirt,
sweat and motocross were the main events at the annual Over
The Hill Gang South Nationals at Glen Helen Raceway Park in
San Bernardino October 18 & 19, as riders from all over
southern California and beyond competed in one of the top events
of the over-30 motocross circuit.
The highlight of the two-day event was the Pro Class featuring
riders like 8-time veteran world champion Doug Dubach and perennial
top-five finisher Terry Fowler catching big air and fighting
hard in the turns.
"They're the fastest dudes out there," said OTHG President
Jim Pierce, who raced in the 45 and older intermediate class
with a still-mending collarbone.
"Yeah, I was going a little slower than usual," said
Pierce, who heads the 700-member Southern California
chapter
of OTHG.
The annual competition to determine the top OTHG riders was
held for the first time this year at Glen Helen after many years
in Mammoth, and featured more than 300 riders, each competing
in four motos over the two days.
The weekend included a Saturday night barbeque with BBQ chicken
and Tri-tip, adult beverages, and raffle prizes from several
OTHG sponsors.
Sponsors and raffle donors included N-Style Graphics, Too-Tech
Suspensions and Shock Therapy, giving away free suspension rebuilds
and other fun prizes.
"We try to be like a big fraternity, everybody is real
friendly and guys aren't knocking each other down," during
races, said Pierce.
Over The Hill
Gang, or OTHG, has been around for more than 30
years, and has about 1,000 members throughout California. It's
a gang of friends in the true since of the word.

"You
have to be over 30 to be in the club, and all the officers
are riders and members first," said Pierce.
The OTHG riders also seemed to enjoy their ph
otographs,
which were provided by Action Shooters Toby Oliver and
Hakan Benkert, who flew down from the Bay Area to join
in the fun.
"Your reputation precedes you," said Pierce,
noticing the hoard of riders surrounding the photo booth
all day on Sunday.
If you are an OTHG rider and didn't get a chance to purchase

A.S.
breaks into private schools' market
|
 |
Action
Shooters recently won the contract to provide action
photography services f
or all youth sports at Windward
School in West Los Angeles.
The contract brings Action Shooters' premium quality
services to private middle and high school students
throughout the Los Angeles west side.
"It's unbelievable because so rarely do you get
a chance to take good photographs of your teenager,"
said Windward Photo Co-coordinator, Ellen Perliter.
"And to get photographs of this quality is amazing,"
she added. "It's like Sports Illustrated photos."
Action Shooters is photographing all two-dozen sports
teams at the private school of about 425 middle and
high school students.
"We shoot hundreds of youth teams throughout the
state every weekend, but except for the spring baseball
season, our weekdays are relatively quite" said
Action Shooters CFO Toby Oliver. "This is a chance
for us to keep our shooters busy during the week, and
reach a whole new market."
Windward is the first of several private schools that
Action Shooters is looking at to provide a complete
package of photography services. The photographs will
be presented to parents and used in the school's year
book, end of the year sports banquet montage, and other
school publicity activities.
"It makes my job easier and makes the parents happy,"
said Perliter, who spearheaded the drive to bring Action
Shooters and Windward together.
If you are involved with a private middle or high school
and want to bring Action Shooters professional services
to your school, just send us an email at socal@actionshooters.com,
or norcal@actionshooters.com
and ask for more details.
Windward School, one of the top grade 7 to 12 schools
in Southern California, was founded about thirty years
ago by Shirley Windward, a former teacher at Paul Revere
Junior High School in West Los Angeles, and has many
PHD teachers on it's teaching staff.
"The teaching staff is incredible," said Perliter.
"The atmosphere is academic but very comfortable."
If you are a Windward parent and didn't yet get to view
your child's photographs, email Perliter at grinart@aol.com,
and in the subject space write "Action Shooters."
